Listen, we're all for showing a little ankle come
summertime. But this has gone way too far. On any given morning for the
last few months, anyone with the inclination to look could spot a
veritable slew of guys wearing trousers rolled to such heights that it
looks like they're getting ready to wade in a river, not delve into the
workday. And though it seems like something as simple as informally
cuffing your pants should be self-explanatory, it's clearly not.
So, for the sake of everyone out there who needs to hear it, let's get something straight: A couple inches of space between
the end of your pants and the beginning of your shoe is just fine. A
gaping chasm of leg hair and exposed shin? Not so much. If this sounds
like an arbitrary dictum from the self-proclaimed pants-roll police,
trust us: It isn't.
There's a good reason for
exercising some restraint when you're rolling up before heading out the
door: Pants that end mid-calf aren't flattering for anyone but the
tallest of guys. They artificially break the natural line of your legs
and make you look shorter than you actually are. Which, in turn, makes
you look heavier and squatter than you actually are. This, obviously, is
not something to be desired.
